What other chemicals or products should I use?

For pools, add a stabilizer or conditioner if the level is below 20 ppm, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Algaecides are also beneficial. For spas, clarifiers can help with occasional cloudy water. Pairing these with a FROG mineral cartridge ensures balanced, crystal-clear water with less maintenance.

What's the difference between "total" chlorine and "free" chlorine?

Total chlorine refers to all the chlorine present in your water, including both active and inactive forms. Free chlorine is the portion still available to sanitize effectively. When combined chlorine (chloramines) rises above free chlorine, it’s time to shock the water. Using FROG Serene mineral cartridge products helps maintain optimal chlorine balance and reduce chloramine buildup.

How long will the minerals last?

For pools, FROG minerals last about six months or one pool season—whichever is shorter. Once removed, they can’t be reused the following year. For spas, the minerals last four months, so replace them every four months or whenever you drain and refill. The FROG ease replacement cartridges make this quick and simple.

What products are not compatible with FROG®?

Avoid using ionizers, since they duplicate the mineral process, and biguanides like Baquacil®, which aren’t compatible with chlorine or bromine. Instead, choose trusted FROG hot tub cartridges designed specifically for balanced, efficient water care.

What minerals are used in the cartridge?

Each FROG cartridge contains a unique blend of silver and limestone. Silver targets bacteria, while limestone absorbs acids to help maintain neutral pH levels. This combination is what makes FROG spa products so effective at keeping water soft, clean, and easy to manage.

How do I balance hard water?

Water supplies vary in mineral content, including iron, copper, and magnesium. These minerals should be removed using a Metal Out or Sequestering Agent (consult your dealer). When using FROG spa supplies, remove natural water minerals only at startup and wait 24 hours before cleaning the filter and inserting the FROG cartridge for best results.
